Pro-Breton language Ar Redadeg race raises 165,000 euros in 2014 edition
Breton individuals, firms and public administrations gave 165,000 euro for the 2014 Ar Redadeg, a race which is held in Brittany every two years to raise funds for schools and projects on behalf of the Breton language. According to Le Télégramme, 62,500 euros will be transferred to Diwan federation of Breton language-medium schools, while a further 62,500 will be used to fund a number of Breton language projects, including theatre, adult education and entertainment. The other 40,000 euros will be used to for the preparation of the 2016 race.
Ar Redadeg Co-President Mael Thepaut said all race kilometers were sold, and a "participation of collectivities, politicians and companies" was better in 2014 than in previous years.
However, the overall economic result fell short of expectations: Ar Redadeg leaders had hoped to be able to transfer 134,000 euro -just 9,000 more than what was effectively given to Diwan and the projects.
Money is raised as individuals, businesses or public administrations purchase kilometres of the race. As regards the 2014 race, 1,508 kilometres were sold.
Proposals for the 2016 race
Moreover, the Ar Redadeg board called for applications to host the 2016 Ar Redadeg start and finish. Proposals can be submitted until December 15th. Once the start and finish are chosen, the complete 2016 Ar Redadeg route will be drawn.
