Kurdish movement blames Turkey for "massacre" in Cizre

Pro-Kurdish HDP party co-leader Selahattin Demirtas said the Turkish army has committed a "massacre" in the North Kurdish city of Cizre during an anti-PKK operation. Demirtas argued that, according to HDP data, the army killed 70 to 90 civilians who had sought refuge in the basement of a building and in other nearby locations.

As the facts came to be known, the Kurdish movement staged protests not only in Kurdistan, but also in several worldwide capital cities. New demonstrations are furthermore being prepared, such as one in London on March 6th.

The Turkish government however denies any responsibility in the civilian deaths, and says that 10 PKK fighters were killed during the operation.
