The coalition Europe Ecology Brittany, made up of The Greens, Breton Democratic Union (UDB) and independent members from trade unions an civil associations, has announced this week that Guy Hascoët will be the coalition's candidate for the elections to the Briton Assembly due in March 2010. He is a well-known politician not only in Brittany but in France, as he served as secretary of state from 2000-2002 in Lionel Jospin's socialist government.

Hascoët has a renowned environmentalist profile -he is one of the co-founders of the French Greens. However, Europe Ecology will also stand for a federalist program for Brittany due to the influence of the pro-autonomy party Breton Democratic Union within the coalition.

The Breton Democratic Union (UDB) is the Breton pro-sovereignty party with most chances of entering the Assembly, partly because its alliance with The Greens. Parties such as the Breton Party, Emgann or the Federalist Party of Brittany have few chances of obtaining seats. UDB currently holds 4 seats out of a total of 83.
