Type: Language and culture

The report's headlines on the French Cup final in the Breton online journal Agence Bretagne Presse were clear-cut: "Stade de France: Rebirth of a nation". Two Breton teams played the final: Stade Rennais and En Avant de Guingamp, a team playing in the French Ligue 2. For the first time, Bro goz ma zadou, the Breton national anthem was played in France during an official match.

The event, which became a Breton national celebration, broke the stadium attendance record, as it gathered 80,000 Bretons in Paris to watch the final. Against all predictions, Guingamp turned out to be the winner.

As ABP informs, the Breton anthem has also been played during matches organized by the Breton Football Association (BFA). The French Federation does not recognize the BFA and hinders it from organizing friendly matches. The Breton national team has only played two matches in the last 20 years.
