According to Divers.ro online journal, the Hungarian community in Romania is to present a joint list of candidates to run elections to the European Parliament. The main Hungarian party in Romania, the Democratic Union of Hungarians from Romania (UDMR), has joined the National Council of Hungarians from Romania (NCHR). The coalition will be led by Laszlo Tokes, an historical leader of Hungarians in Romania and currently a member of the European parliament for Fidesz party, from Hungary.

Tokes has been the promoter of the National Council of Transylvanian Hungarians (CNMT), a non-partisan organization from which he has demanded the support of Romanian and Hungarian political parties, as well as several NGO's. 70 % of the quota has been assigned to the UDMR, while the 30 % will go to NCHR.
