Riots in the Kosovar town of Mitrovica after a young Serb was stabbed

Riots flared up in the Kosovar town of Mitrovica on Tuesday 30th after a 16 year old Serb was stabbed by two Albanian teenagers. According to Reuters, the aggression against the young man enraged hundreds of Serbs from Northern Mitrovica, who set on fire several shops run by Albanians.

According to the Serbian online newspaper B92, the incidents forced NATO security forces to intervene in order bring the situation under control.

Mitrovica is a city in Northern Kosovo divided in two halves since the end of the war in 1999. Its northern part has a Serbian majority, whereas the south part of the city is populated by Albanians.
