The Hungarian party not to form government coalition in Romania

The Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSz), with 6.4% of total suffrage, had chances to be back to cabinet

Date: From 12/15/2008 to 12/22/2008
Type: Politics and institutions

A rare coalition between the Liberal Democratic Party (conservative) and the Socialdemocrat Party (progressive) will be in charge of governing the Republic of Romania for the next four years with the aim of "getting over the period of crisis". Both parties, which gained the largest share of votes on November elections, amount to 329 seats in a Parliament of 471 and have therefore excluded the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSz) from government.

During the last legislature the Hungarian party had already taken part in the government coalition called Alliance for Justice and Truth, made up of the Liberal National Party, the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party.

According to Financiarul.ro, the Hungarian leader Marko Bela has declared that RMDSz is not willing to give support to a government which includes the SDP and will not accept LDP's offer to hold future government posts.
