Motion against Spanish Constitutional Court’s decision on Catalan Statute presented by Plaid Cymru in Westminster

The motion states that “Catalonia is a nation” and that Catalonia’s democratic will has been transgressed by the Constitutional Court

Date: From 07/15/2010 to 07/22/2010
Type: Political parties and trade-unions

Welsh pro-sovereignty party Plaid Cymru presented a motion in favour of Catalonia's national rights before the British Parliament. The initiative comes as a response to the decision by the Spanish Constitutional Court about the Statute of Catalonia. The document, which was promoted by deputy Hywel Williams, gives support to the 2006 Catalan Statute approved by the Parliament of Catalonia. It also declares that Catalonia is a nation and that Catalonia's democratic will has been transgressed by the Constitutional Court. Thus, Plaid Cymru certifies its support to the people of Catalonia and the right of Catalonians to freely decide future.
