Frisian parties from Germany and the Netherlands team up to safeguard their shores

They have made a case before the European Parliament so that measures are taken against ships leaking damaging or toxic materials in the North Sea

Date: From 03/09/2010 to 03/15/2010
Type: Political parties and trade-unions

The three main Frisian parties have agreed to make a case for a motion in the European Parliament asking the Greens-European Free Alliance group to take action against ship accidents near Frisian shores, in the Wadden Sea and the North Sea. Too often ships lose some of their cargo containers containing toxic and damaging materials which have severe consequences for the environment and for people. Frisian parties have said all containers should have GPS transmitters installed in order to trace them once they are lost at sea.

Three parties have teamed up for cooperation: the Frisian National Party (Netherlands), and The Friesen and SSW (South Schleswig Voters' Association), from Germany.
