Human mural for Breton reunification out of 2,000 people

Breton activists depict a huge image of the '44=BZH' slogan in Nantes

Date: From 03/01/2010 to 03/08/2010
Type: Civil society and social movements

Nantes -Naoned in Breton- has been the scenario of a new mobilisation in favour of the reintegration of the Loire Atlantique department into Brittany. The former is currently part of the Pays de la Loire region, while the latter constitutes a separate region itself. The action has been planned by Bretagne Reuni ('Reunited Brittany') and 44=Breizh civic organizations. They composed a giant human mural out of 2,000 people with the slogan '44=BZH'. The number 44 refers to the code number of the Loire Atlantique department, while BZH is the shortened form for Breizh, meaning Brittany in Breton language.

According to the organisers, the action aims at placing the issue of Breton reunification in the political agenda and public debate, as there are regional elections ahead due in March 14.
